The ADFC Bicycle Travel Analysis provides tourism organisations, local authorities, accommodation providers and other stakeholders in the tourism sector with valuable insights into the target group of cycling holidaymakers. The analysis helps improve understanding of the behaviour and needs of the growing number of cycling holidaymakers and to identify appropriate courses of action.

What does the ADFC Cycling Trip Analysis examine?

In addition to socio-demographic factors, the ADFC Cycle Tourism Analysis collects information on the behaviour of cycle tourists. Where do they look for information before or during a cycle tour? When do they make their travel decisions? What are their favourite destinations? How many kilometres do they cover each day? What types of accommodation do they book?

The analysis focuses on questions around travel behaviour; these are always included to ensure data comparability. Each analysis contains supplementary on changing key topics (e.g. the 2020 coronavirus pandemic).

How does the ADFC cycle tourism analysis work?

The ADFC Bicycle Travel Analysis is conducted in collaboration with the market research institute T.I.P. Marktforschung. As part of the analysis, around 17,000 online questionnaires are completed across Germany over a period of several weeks, starting around November. The data is collected via two closed panels and an open analysis. Depending on the panel, between 60 and 90 questions are asked.

When will the results be published?

The findings of the 26th ADFC Bicycle Travel Analysis will be presented on 4 March 2026 at the ITB International Tourism Fair in Berlin. The live stream can be viewed on YouTube.
