Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club e. V. (ADFC)

About the ADFC

The ADFC is the world's largest advocacy organization for cyclists in the world and has more than 240,000 members. The more of us there are, the more pressure politicians feel – right down to the local level!

We are committed to a mobility transition with the bicycle at its core, and thus to an increase in climate protection, safety, health, and quality of life.
We want Germany to become a nation of cyclists, giving bicycles more space and making legislation more bicycle-friendly.
We want good cycle paths to be built everywhere, so that everyone can ride their bikes safely and comfortably.

The ADFC is politically neutral with regard to parties, but takes a clear side when it comes to the interests of cyclists. That is why, as a transport policy association and bicycle lobby, we are committed to the consistent promotion of cycling.

We put political pressure on decision-makers
We promote public debate and generate political pressure through our campaigns. We inform poltiical decision-makers at specialist events and through our lobbying activities. We raise public awareness of a lack in bicycle-friendliness and the improvements needed in cycling conditions with projects such as the ADFC-Fahrradklima-Test.

We provide advice on all matters relating to cycling
We organize bike checks and bike-marking events, support DIY repair workshops, and provide information on anything to do with bicycles: from technology, law, and services to politics and tourism. We offer practical tips and recommendations for anyone who enjoys cycling.
With initiatives such as the “Bicycle-Friendly Employer,” we help ensure that more people travel in a climate-friendly and healthy way. We keep a close eye on everything produced by the bicycle industry and step in when it comes to improving product quality.

We organize bike tours

With cycling maps, we help cyclists find their way. We also advocate good signposting and with it, inviting bicycle routes: adfc-radtourismus.de

We certify bicycle-friendly accommodation: bettundbike.de

We offer members a wide range of services
Our membership fee includes ADFC breakdown assistance, while our 24/7 hotline takes the sting out of breakdowns. In addition, ADFC members travelling by bike, on public transport (in connection with bicycle transport), or on foot are covered by legal protection insurance. ADFC members also receive favorable terms from cooperation partners and when taking out bicycle insurance.

We also grant ADFC members reduced rates for ADFC bike tours, talks and seminars and regularly send out our ADFC magazine Radwelt (German only, digital version also available). As a member, you will also receive our Radwelt newsletter (German only), keeping you up to date on the ADFC, our work and all things cycling.

Junger ADFC

Junger ADFC is the ADFC’s youth organisation for people under 27 who enjoy cycling. Junger ADFC aims to make cycling fun everywhere; to achieve its goal, the youth organisation contributes its perspective to transport policy. Members form a network, extend their knowledge and organise activities around cycling.

The organisation takes a grassroots approach when it comes to its structure and way of working, both of which have been laid down in the ADFC federal youth regulations. At federal level, the organisation's federal assembly and youth board actively collaborate with various working groups.

Federal Board

The Federal Executive Committee represents the ADFC externally and is responsible for the association’s policies. It currently consists of seven elected members.
